Erykah. Baduuuuuuu …
I just got back from the #BaduVSEverythangTour in New Orleans. I will pregame this review by saying that, I felt Badu was going to CUT UP when she came to New Orleans. I had seen her DJ about two weeks prior to today at Victory Tavern for RC Williams “Celebrity Birthday Bash”. It was the fact that during her set she shouted out “504”. I was stoked to be seeing her in my hometown because there is something about this city that gives you an energy to feed off of. Badu, being Badu, the Queen that she is, stole that energy and transcended it beyond anything imaginable. This concert is truly one you have to see to believe.
She walks onto the stage with the BADDEST heels ,20 feet tall! Commanding the stage with each stride to her microphone. And she begins. The visuals that went along with this concert are AMAZING! She begins the show waking you up and opening your mind for what is to come. With hues of blues, greens, yellows, and reds…the venue becomes a luminarium.
Taking us back to the beginning, Muvah reminds us of just who she is. Confident is how she says her names. As if sizing you up in a way only your mother could, while also being totally transparent singing “Me”. She even shouts out us 90’s babies and welcomes us in our new found “wokeness” with open arms of relief, as if glad we made it.
Apple Tree over took the crowd. It was one of the most heightening performances of them all because you couldn’t help but be rocking with her the whole time. And Badu is the absolute goofiest person! Her personality shined through the strobe lights. She was inviting, inquisitive, commanding, spiritual, sensual, and fun. When she hit those vocals though, I mean Hit. Those. Vocals. She reminds you that she is an artist. And she’s sensitive about her shit. Also that she is the best at what she does. There is never been a point in Erykah Badu’s career that she should have been doubted, because she has always been, her.
Erykah Badu proceeded to snatch up all the wigs in the UNO Arena with “I Want You”. This song was the first I had seen her perform and it was a YouTube video from the Dave Chappelle Show. I love her delivery of this song because she is so real with it. She stands by every word in that song it comes out in the carefree strength in the way she sings it.
I caught a contact in that dag on arena too. Muvah performed “Back in The Day”. That is all that needs to be said on that one. Other than, it was phenomenal and chill as hell. Side note: I in fact got my “large drink, large fries, large everything (please)”.
I love Erykah Badu for the main fact that she is down to teach us. She does not just sing about profound things idly, she knows it. And one of the things I was told is that if you can teach someone something, you know it. Well, if you every questioned if Badu is, Badu. Don’t. She is the real deal. She goes into Soldier and her inspiration being the title of her album, “New Amerykah: Part 1.: 4th World War”. As Badu schools us on occupation, you can’t help but be amazed at her wisdom and passion. Its “genuine, she’s genuine”. Truly. She takes you to class.
So back to how she CUT UP! Babeh, BADU ACTED UP, OKAY! My Muvah was on that stage and transformed from Muvah to Badu. She danced, she laughed, she interacted. We were truly having and evening with Erykah Badu. It felt as if she sat us all down in her living room and we were vibing with her. She even clapped it yall! I see you been practicing Badu! . Also, Badu is SNATCHED YALL!!!
If you have not gotten your tickets to the #BaduVSEverythangTour …. Go get them. I am already waiting for a Dallas, Texas, date to drop so I can see her on her turf. I am so glad I was able to see Erykah Badu in concert. Everything about the show was so groovy. If you go, make sure you peep Durand Bernard on the background vocals. That man has some PIPES!

I was NEVER a Bryson Tiller fan ,and proud of it, until I heard “Let Me Explain” on the Are & Be playing on Spotify. Ever since I have been bawling my eyes out and swearing I deserve better, LOL . Bryson Tiller just released his 19 track album “True to Self” the other day ,and in true Bryson Tiller form, It is a mix of over emotions, you’re a queen, and I’m on some new shit anthems. One of my favorite aspects of Bryson Tiller is that, no matter how he switches up his beats, his sound is still respectfully his. He does not try to tap into the trap music lane or even soft rap like Drake. He truly delivers: Bryson Tiller Music. I am not going too in depth because a video will be released about my “First Listen” of this album. So be on the look-out for that on YouTube. Until then, peep the album on Spotify!
All of the throwback jams in one playlist! Check it out on Spotify.
This song has played every time I have entered my vehicle in the last 2 weeks. If it is not played, I do not feel complete. Dramatic? Maybe. But this song is FIRE! Noname is one of the best female rappers I have ever heard. Her style is unique because she spits so many twists and turns like a female Timbaland. The first time I heard one of her songs was “Angles” with the extraordinary Mick Jenkins. Both of them are strong lyricists that, with each song, have their own style but switch things up. My favorite aspect of Noname’s style is that every word, no matter how fast it enters my ear, is clear. She annunciates and so that makes listening to her more enjoyable because you know exactly what she is saying. Did I mention that she is ADORABLE!? I peeped her NPR Tiny Desk, and other than the vibe, I couldn’t help but want to be her friend and borrow all of her clothes and hair products. Check out Noname’s “Diddy Bop”, “Angles”, and her Tiny Desk below.

“Peep This” is a new K-List segment where I will share with you all different concerts/performances that I like. Hope you all enjoy this as much as i do.
The first song “Boxes and Squares” is my absolute JAM right now. It is so fun and light and is just a great song to get you going. I love how the band never looks at each other but is so in sync with each other and the singers. I would like to point out how AMAZING those back ground vocals are! EVERY song she slays them. Honestly I don’t even want to call them backgrounds because of how strong and passionate they are, especially in “Rollercoasters”. She OWNS those O’s! Overall this is a DOPE concert. I love the song selection they chose as well. Each song different than the next with it’s own theme, yet they somehow all come together to make a sensational show! That is Tank And The Bangs Ya’ll!
