Ab-Soul: YMF Tour

Screen Shot 2017-04-26 at 12.40.38 PM.pngOne of my favorite things to do is go to a concert where I either do not listen to or have never listened to the artist. The first time I did was with Drake. It was my junior year of high school (4 years ago) and it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. Last night I was able to go see Nick Grant, Little Simz, and Ab-Soul at Trees in Dallas. IT WAS SO LIT! Each act brought a different type of hype that felt like they were unlocking levels to the concert and with each level you’re tested on just how lit you can get. Nick Grant had me shook when he spit his freestyle at the end of his set. I arrived late so I did not see his whole set. It is rare now to find rappers who can actually rap. Seeing how he so effortlessly allowed the lyrics to flow, it was so dope! Then Little Simz came out and damn near stole the show. The energy in her set was out of this world! IMG_7264.JPGShe commanded the stage and the music was so raw. Never hearing her before was almost overwhelming, especially when trying to Shazam every song that was played. Little Simz has a style that is so versatile. Each song was different than the last. One had you ready to turn up the next made you feel you were vibing with Lauryn Hill. She even included a rap ballad? Not sure if that Is what you would call it but there was some rapping, guitar playing, and singing. Honestly one of the best sets I’ve ever seen because she truly supplied and lived off of the energy ! Ab-Soul. Ab-Soul. Ab-Soul. The best way to teach people something, or so I’ve been told, is to give it to them three times. I am trying to teach you all, the culture. Ab-Soul is, the culture. First off, dude is SO FINE! IMG_7272.JPGNow that we got that out of the way, let’s be professional. Ab-Soul puts on a pretty bomb show. Not only does he interact with the crowd, even calling some guy out for not being a gentleman, he hypes the crowd. There is never a dull moment in this show. From the neon lights, to water guns, to money being thrown. It is so easy to caught up in the show. I will say one of the best moments in the show was learning that he has been in the game for a minute. There were people repping Ab-Soul since 2007. Someone that has that much dedication to their art and their fans is more than an artist. That is someone who is art. They exude a type of confidence in their art that you cannot help but respect them…and that is what you get from Ab-Soul. Not a word stumbled on and he was going a mile a minute. Holds the mic in his hand like it is a scepter. No flaws. Just music.  He gets up there and you just know that it will be a night to remember, which it was. If you have yet to get your tickets to the YMF tour, GET THEM NOW! It truly is an experience that everyone should have.
