This was truly a night to remember ! I walked in and already felt the crowds energy in response to live a performance of The Feel by RC & The Gritz. I’m not going to lie, the album is amazing and is even better in person.” Jelly Roll” has a New Orleans hype that takes over everyone , especially with the help of a live dancer accompanying the band. With vocals that hugged you and made you sway, each singer grabbed their mic and made the night theirs. Commanding the stage , they made it known that they were giving their all. I will say, “I’ll Be Waiting For You” was a true crowd pleaser. Everyone was singing along like they wrote the song themselves. Each member of the band held their own. Each tap of the drum, thump on they keyboard, every instrument was felt in the vibe. This was one of the best live experiences I’ve ever had. It was awesome to know they are all very down to. Each member of RC & The Gritz walked off stage and went straight to interacting with fans and friends. Even dancing to the music the DJ played between sets. Chris Dave & The Drumhedz followed them up and did not disappoint. If I could I would relive this over and over again & The Prohet Bar has such an awesome space it totally complimented the spirit of the evening. Don’t forget to check out RC & The Gritz’s new album The Feel on ITunes!
I would like to formally apologize for being so asleep. I would like to thank you for your contribution to the culture. Watching you on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert was truly life changing. The way you commanded the room with your presence, stole my heart with your smile, and made me jam out of my skin with each tap of the drum. It didn’t help that your voice is amazing and slightly reminded me of one of my favorite artists, Kendrick Lamar. I was awed by the way you spoke, how you switched between being ratchet to woke in one swift sentence. It was then solidified that this was a long-term relationship that I am developing with your music when I went on Spotify to find out you are consistent and have BEEN putting out fire for the world to vibe in. How conscious you are of the world and the situations that surround you that you put in your music, only deepened this appreciation of you. So thank you for being talented and great and cute.
P.S. Sorry for drinking up all your liquor.

RC & The Gritz just released their sophomore album, The Feel. By joining aspects of Jazz, Soul, Rap, and R&B, The Feel creates a soundscape that anyone can enjoy. From the edgy intro of “The Feel” to the soulful vocals of “I’ll Be Waiting For You” and the energetic rhythms of “Jelly Roll”, it is easy to get lost in this album. This is a great follow up from their debut album, Pay Your Tab, that can be found on Spotify and Apple Music. RC & The Gritz seem to have this down to a science because Pay Your Tab was such a great album to vibe to and so is this one. Both are very laid back and are easy on the listener’s ears. The album features many other artists such as Bianca Rodriguez, Jamil Byrom, Sarah Jaffe, Sam Lao, Robert Searight, DJ Big Texas, Bobby Sessions, Zyah, So So Topic, Shaun Martin, Mike Mitchell, Nicole Neely, Chris Dave, Mark Lettieri, Frank Moka, Bernard Wright, Mike Clowes, Jason Davis, Ben Hixon, Shelly Carrol, Evan Weiss, and Gaika James. Musically, this group has it all with Cleon Edwards on the drums, Braylon “Brother B” Lacy on the bass, Claudia Melton with the vocals, TaRon Lockett on percussion, Jah Born as MPC, and RC “Rceeezy” Williams on keyboard, vocals, and production. Also being Erykah Badu’s band, you know they come with it. Don’t sleep on this album K-Listers. You can go snag it on ITunes now. You can also go hear them live at the Prophet Bar November 9th at 8pm or November 16th at 8pm.

Lately I’ve been listening to Creative Control by Lando Grimes. To say this is his first full project, the album is nicely put together. I love when the songs all easily flow together and sound like they are all a part of one body of work. You can tell he is comfortable in his sound and is confident in his talent by how he raps and takes command over the music. Lando Grimes has an edgy sound that isn’t too intimidating and creates a great vibe to be in. You can tell he is a lyricist who writes from experience. My favorite on the album is “Cosign” because it is the best sounding on the album as far as quality. This is an album that I can listen to straight through, no skips, no shuffle. It has a nice sound to it so it’s an easy listen. Check out “Creative Control” on Sound Cloud and don’t forget to follow the artist, Lando Grimes, to keep up with his music.
