King Keiith

King Keiith is an artist that contacted me on Twitter about my blog. At first I was hesitant because everyone knows the stigma associated with Twitter “rappers”. Everyone has a mix tap now-a-days so it is hard to tell which link is worth the click or now, but this one was totally worth it. As I searched and surfed through his Sound Cloud, I asked my boyfriend and his roommate who he sounded like because it was slightly familiar in tone and flow. We come to the conclusion that he was a fusion of Logic and Kendrick. Clearly all complements. The beat to his song “Cause, Its Thursday” caught my attention the most. It’s simple but complements his flow very well. Personally I think King can go far, his voice has radio appeal and that story teller vibe that seems to be coming back around. So it’s not a bad idea to give those artist a chance that slide in your DM’s, you may find someone you might actually like, like King Keiith https://soundcloud.com/keiith .

Tessa Thompson

We all know Tessa Thompson the actress. The sassy radio personality in “Dear White People” , the college-bound family girl in “Missippi Damned” , and more recently , the love interest of Adonis Creed in “Creed”. But there is more to this very talented actress, she is an amazing musician. Shockingly we find this out in “Creed” where she portrays a musician ,but it is actually her music throughout the film. My absolute favorite off of the Creed soundtrack is her song “Shed You” (above) because of its timeless vibe. It reminds me of AlunaGeorge meets Lianne La Havas. Check out Tessa Thompson on Spotify!

Pacemaker

Okay so I’m currently at the gym, just finished my workout for the day, and I thought I’d share this awesome app with you guys. It’s called Pacemaker and it mixes your music from iTunes ,or even music apps like Spotify, to create the perfect playlist for your workout! So on my Spotify I have a set called “Rec Sports” which is my playlist specifically for the gym. I go into Pacemaker and select the playlist from Spotify and it pulls up all the songs in that set. I have “California” by Colonol Loud , “Put Your Hands Where My Eveys Can See” by Busta Rhymes, “Blow” by Beyoncé , and many other uptempo songs to keep me pumped. From there , PaceMaker mixes the music so that they blend and change into eachother, creating the perfect flow to keep you motivated! It’s like having your own personal DJ ! It is also compatible  for Apple Watch which I control it from normally. Pacemaker is FREE , so give it a try next time you’re hitting the gym!

Sunday Candy

Chance the Rapper is probably one of my favorite artist. Not only is he stylish, petty, & a little cutie , he tells stories with his music. I’d put him in the same category with Kendrick & Cole as far as the new wave of Rap. I absolutely love them and this video is AMAZING! The choir of course caught my attention( Choir Girls Unite✊🏾) but the passion in his vocals is also very evident ! Check him out on SNL ! Sunday Candy

Fame

Fame, makes a man take things over
Fame, lets him loose, hard to swallow
Fame, puts you there where things are hollow
Fame
Fame, it’s not your brain, it’s just the flame
That burns your change to keep you insane
Fame
Fame, what you like is in the limo
Fame, what you get is no tomorrow
Fame, what you need you have to borrow
Fame
Fame, “Nein! It’s mine!” is just his line
To bind your time, it drives you to, crime
Fame
Could it be the best, could it be?
Really be, really, babe?
Could it be, my babe, could it, babe?
Really, really?
Is it any wonder I reject you first?
Fame, fame, fame, fame
Is it any wonder you are too cool to fool

Fame
Fame, bully for you, chilly for me
Got to get a rain check on pain

Jordan Rakei

So the way I found Jordan Rakei is a bit coincidental. Back in the day when your girl was singing and trying to be on the come up on YouTube, I did a cover/mashup of James Blake’s “Retrograde” and Kimbra’s “Settle Down”. Well after I posted the video, about two weeks later, my dad is playing Jordan Rakei’s cover of the same two songs!  Of course I fell in LOVE! Not only does he have an amazing taste in music because he also sampled D’Angelo’s “Lady” while covering “Blackbird” Fat Freddy’s Drop, he is a very talented musician. He really caught my attention with his song “A Tribe Called Government”. Not only is it an amazing song, all of his music just grooves so heavy. The vibe is all the way there, bass lines heavy, pianos going, its just the type of vibe you sit back and well….vibe to. If you have a chance check out his new song “The Light”, released December 11th , and many others on Spotify!Screen Shot 2016-01-07 at 10.19.12 PM
